All The Latest Barbra News!

SPOILERS INCLUDED IN THIS NEWS UPDATE!! BE WARNED.

First Clip from "The Guilt Trip" Released!

It's been a long time coming - but finally, here is a short teaser from Barbra's new movie "The Guilt Trip" which opens Christmas Day.

Barbra Sits Down With Katie Couric.

Barbra's interview with Katie Couric aired in the USA and Canada yesterday.

Barbra revealed some VERY exciting tidbits... including the fact that she will duet with son Jason Gould at the Brooklyn concerts next month. Who knew he could sing? She also revealed Jason will be a duet partner on her next album... an album of duets. She threw a few more names into the mix, of who she might like to sing with... Andrea Bocelli... John Legend.. Usher... Keith Urban to name a few. Babyface Edmonds will produce.

Barbra also revealed that she will perform "By The Way" from 'Lazy Afternoon' during the tour... along with some of the more "obscure" songs from her career... and songs that she has never before performed live.

There was a significant portion of the interview dedicated to "Heart Disease" - something Barbra has really thrown her energy into recently. Dr Noel Bairey Merz joined Barbra for part of the interview too. Definitely worth checking out the clips of them both on the Katie website (see link below).

For those of you who missed it, there is a page of video clips from the interview here:

Barbra's Appearance on 'Katie' Sets New Record.

Barbra Streisand went to bat for Katie Couric and hit a homer. On Tuesday, the singer made a rare stop on daytime TV on Disney-ABC’s Katie and generated the show’s best rating since its premiere two weeks ago.

Katie averaged a 2.3 household rating and 7 share, up 21% from Katie’s Monday episode. Katie premiered to a 2.8/8 on Sept. 10.

On Tuesday, Katie ranked No. 1 in its time period in nine markets, including on KABC New York, where it was up 58% over last week’s average to a 3.0/9. On KABC Los Angeles, it was up 64% to a 2.3/7.
Katie’s best rating was in West Palm Beach, Fla., where it was up 93% from last week to a 5.8/15.

Streisand urges powerful NYers to join fight against women’s heart disease.

New York Post.

Barbra Streisand urged a room of powerful New York women — and a few men — to join the fight against women’s heart disease yesterday. The superstar joined Ronald Perelman at a lunch at the Four Seasons Restaurant to talk about their plan to improve diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in women.

She told a crowd that included Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tamara Mellon, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Debra Messing, Star Jones, Grace Hightower De Niro, Joy Bauer, Alina Cho, Gayle King and Donna Karan that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the US, and kills more women than all cancers combined, yet most research has been done on men.

Streisand said, “I can’t bear the inequality that exists when it comes to women. Women’s heart disease is no different. Surveys show that a very small percentage of research dollars spent in the United States focuses on the treatment of women with heart disease.” She talked of a doctor trying to grow the first human heart in a petri dish who found that only female stem cells worked: “The male cells got lost, and as we know with men — even male stem cells — they get lost and won’t ask for directions.”

Streisand, who earlier toured the Perelman Heart Institute at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, has raised millions for her namesake Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai in LA — making a $10 million donation then personally wrangling her wealthy friends including Perelman, Ralph Lauren, Sumner Redstone, Barry Diller and Michael Bloomberg to make large financial gifts.

Despite the serious discussion, many in the power crowd were clearly thrilled to meet Streisand, including “Will & Grace” star Messing, who arrived with a program from an early out-of-town production of “Funny Girl,” which Streisand happily leafed through, sighing, “Happy memories” before she signed it.

A Report from the Marvin Hamlisch Tribute, last night, in New York City.

BarbraNews.com Exclusive Report

Last night, when Barbra walked onto the stage and looked up at Marvin's picture - before heading to the microphone - the audience could already sense that they were in for something very special. After Terre Hamlisch's (Marvin's widow) opening speech, and a number of performances of music from Marvin's career, Barbra was there to bring it all home... Back to Manhattan, where she and Marvin started their careers, but more specifically, at The Juilliard School, where Marvin had trained and where a scholarship fund has been set up in his honor. Attendees last night were urged to contribute to the fund.

(For those of you who would like to contribute to the fund, the address is: Juilliard School Development Office. Attention: Riccardo Salmona. 60 Lincoln Center Plaza New York, ny 10023)

Barbra proceeded to talk about her friend Marvin and elicited both laughter and tears. When she unexpectedly put the iconic favorite "The Way We Were" together with the theme from Ice Castles "Looking Through The Eyes Of Love" - with special lyrics - there wasn't a dry eye in the house, whether you were in the audience, or backstage. The way Barbra felt about Marvin was visibly apparent. Joe Torre, the former manager of the Yankees, who was in attendance last night, was surely thinking "She knocked it out of the ballpark!"

Richard Jay-Alexander, who was there, told me, exclusively, "It was just one of those nights. You had to be there ... because whether it was the stars who were performing, or the fresh young faces from the upcoming musical "The Nutty Professor" ... you could just feel the love and admiration in the room.... and, of course, the loss. Mike Nichols put together a beautiful evening and everyone on both sides of the footlights were happy to be there and remember the "singular sensation." Special thanks to Richard Jay-Alexander.

EXCLUSIVE: Listen to Barbra Streisand's Previously Unreleased 'Home'

Among the more anticipated tracks on Barbra Streisand's upcoming album Release Me is "Home," her soaring, up-tempo take on the anthem from the musical The Wiz.

"...while listening to her powerful 25-year-old vocals on the track, Streisand decided to re-record the bass, drums, and piano in order to fully realize the potential of the more uptempo arrangement of the popular standard, which serves as a sort of answer to "(Somewhere) Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz, the source material for the 1974 musical. Streisand, a noted perfectionist, even enlisted the same three musicians who had played on the original session for the song to maintain continuity."
