Streisand to perform at Oscars

First live performance at Academy Awards since 1977

By Jon Weisman

Barbra Streisand will perform at the 85th annual Academy Awards on Feb. 24, headlining a ceremony that is rapidly filling with performances and music. It will be Streisand's second performance ever at the Oscars and first in 36 years, since singing "A Star Is Born" in 1977.

She won an original song Oscar for "Evergreen" that night. "In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music," said Oscarcast exec producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, "how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand?

We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance." Streisand also won a lead actress Oscar for 1968's "Funny Girl" and has been nominated three other times in three different categories.

Previously, the Academy announced that Adele will perform the Oscar-nominated title song that she co-wrote with Paul Epworth from "Skyfall" at the Oscars, and that Norah Jones will perform "Everybody Needs a Best Friend" - - co-written by Oscar host Seth MacFarlane with Walter Murphy - - from the motion picture "Ted."

As part of its emphasis on tunes, this year's ceremony will also include a special celebration of movie musicals from the past 10 years, including "Chicago," "Dreamgirls" and "Les Miserables." There will also be a tribute to the 50th year of the James Bond franchise, which launched with "Dr. No" in 1962.

Tony-winning production designer Derek McLane makes his debut as the set designer for the Oscars.
